Overview
Sylvie Bonnot

Sylvie Bonnot develops new modes of photographic transfiguration, questioning our relationship to the living world and to the image in relation to the geographies of space and the transformations of forests. 

 

The photographic print has become a landscape for reflection, leading her to develop a performative approach to photography. The gesture she has invented through the “moulting” process enhances the organic dimension of her images by crystallising the silver membrane of her photographs, without diminishing their documentary capacity.

Education

Sylvie Bonnot earned an MFA from ENSA – National School of Art in Dijon, France, where she studied from 2001 to 2006. From 2004 to 2005, she was a Visiting Scholar in the Humanities Department at Curtin University in Australia

Sylvie Bonnot is the recipient of the Planches Contact Festival x Photo4Food 2026 residency, the Elles & Cité 2025 programme at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, the Capsule residencies at the Centre d’art de Lectoure in 2025–2026, the ECPAD x ADAGP residency at Fort d’Ivry in 2024, and the Grande Commande Photo Radioscopie, led by the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) in 2022–2023.

Her work is held in collections including the Musée Nicéphore Niépce, the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), Hangar, the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis, CNES at Les Abattoirs Musée and FRAC Toulouse, FMAC Gentilly, the art libraries of Lyon, Cajarc and Auxerre, and the Belgian Luxembourg Contemporary Art Center.
