Claudia Jaguaribe BR, b. 1955
Claudia Jaguaribe is a Brazilian visual artist and photographer whose work explores the relationships between landscape, territory, environment and the construction of the contemporary image.
She approaches photography not only as a means of recording reality, but as a conceptual device capable of producing multiple layers of interpretation and creating tension between reality and subjectivity. Her practice also places strong emphasis on the materiality and transformation of the image, taking the form of photo-sculptures, installations, videos and digital projects. Deconstruction and reconstruction, layering, multiple viewpoints and shifts in temporality are recurring elements in her work.
Education
Claudia Jaguaribe holds degrees in Art History from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and in Photography from Boston University in the United States.

Awards
Claudia Jaguaribe was a finalist for the PHmuseum Photobook Award in 2025. Her book Beijing Overshoot was nominated for the German Design Award in 2019 and selected for the PHotoEspaña Best Photography Book of the Year Award in 2018. She was also a finalist for the Syngenta Photography Award in 2017, while EntreVistas was selected among the best photobooks for the Kassel Photobook Award in 2015. She was nominated for the Prix Pictet for Growth in 2010–2011 and received the XI Prêmio Funarte Marc Ferrez de Fotografia in 2010.

Her works and books can be found in several museums and collections in Brazil and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Brumadinho, the Moreira Salles Institute in Rio de Janeiro, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the Instituto Italo-Latino Americano in Rome, the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and MoMA.
Publications
Claudia Jaguaribe has published more than twenty books and co-founded Editora Madalena in 2013, a publishing house dedicated to photobooks by Brazilian and international artists.
