Julie Calbert BE, b. 1985
Julie Calbert is a Belgian photographer and visual artist whose practice lies at the intersection of photography, installation and material experimentation. Her work is rooted in an attentive observation of landscapes, processes of transformation and the relationship between image and matter.
Through analogue processes, darkroom manipulations and the integration of objects and sculptural forms, she creates ensembles in which photographs interact with volumes, surfaces and fragments, whether found or fabricated. Her work often explores the way an image can extend beyond the place from which it originates, shifting through memory, repetition and changes of scale. Moving between recognition and abstraction, her images approach landscape as something unstable and constantly transforming.
Education
Julie Calbert graduated in Photography from the Haute École Libre de Bruxelles Ilya Prigogine in 2010. She subsequently worked for the Belgian press and taught photography at the Institut national de radioélectricité et cinématographie (INRACI) in Brussels
