Lucas Leffler BE, b. 1993
Lucas Leffler is a Belgian visual artist whose practice moves between documentary photography, experimentation and fiction. Adopting the position of an investigator, he combines research into the history of places with an exploration of photographic processes, materials and forgotten technical or scientific narratives.
His work is particularly concerned with the mineral and chemical properties of silver and with the histories embedded in photographic materials. Through experimentation and performative re-enactment, he revisits overlooked practices and figures — from August Strindberg’s celestographs to Lilly Kolisko’s experiments with silver nitrate — questioning how history is written, transmitted and reassessed in the present.
Education
Lucas Leffler graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent in 2019. From 2022 to 2024, he completed a Post-Master programme at Le Fresnoy – Studio National in Tourcoing, France.
